The media platform hosts the Minister of Public Health and Population

The media platform set up by the Ministry of Information for members of the National Salvation Government, institutions and official bodies, today hosted the Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Taha Ahmed Al-Mutawakel.

The spokesperson of the National Salvation Government, Minister of Information, Dhaifallah Al-Shami, confirmed that the media platform will highlight the role of the Ministry of Public Health and Population in full transparency and clarity, highlighting its achievements and the difficulties it faces in light of the continuing aggression and its future projects to improve the level of health services provided to patients and find safe medicine and an appropriate price.

Al-Shami welcomed the guest of the media platform, the Minister of Health and the leadership of the Ministry and its sectors to respond to the questions and inquiries that express the concerns and aspirations of citizens and the problems they suffer in light of the aggression and siege, and convey them to the concerned authorities through various Yemeni media.

The Minister of Information considered the media platform as a platform for communication between officials in the National Salvation Government and the citizen through the media, which is a link to deliver real information to society and its positive role in enhancing the level of community awareness of the importance of the issues addressed by the platform.

The minister pointed out that hosting the media platform of the Minister of Health is the first of its activities for the current year 2021.

On the podium, the Minister of Public Health and Population reviewed the Ministry's achievements and the challenges it faces in light of the ongoing aggression and siege, and its future plans.

Dr. Al-Mutawakel affirmed the Ministry's intention to proceed with a comprehensive and complete reform of the health sector and to set standards that end random accumulated over decades.

He praised the role of medical and health cadres who work under aggression and difficult and critical conditions, noting the steadfastness of the Yemeni people, who endured suffering and pain in the face of confronting the countries of global arrogance, and the acts of killing, displacement and siege they were subjected to.

He pointed out that the ministry during the past decades has not been at the level of ambition and need in terms of vast infrastructure as much as the Yemeni people need .. indicating that hospitals since the 1960s and 1970s are still working with their old devices whose useful life has expired, and there are hospitals that have not been restored, rehabilitated and equipped for decades.

The Minister of Health stated that the aggression targeted the health sector directly by destroying 513 health facilities and preventing the entry of medicines, equipment and medical supplies.

He emphasized that the Ministry was able, in light of the aggression, to make many repairs at the level of health and rural institutions and hospitals, and to establish new hospitals, in addition to entering many equipment to operate rural hospitals.

He said, "The previous period, and in light of the natural situation and the huge potential, there was no computer tomography in any hospital, while the ministry was able during the aggression to introduce about eight PCs to most hospitals."

The Minister of Health considered the health sector and primary care the cornerstone in combating diseases and epidemics, stressing that Yemen followed an independent experience of what the world went to in facing the Corona pandemic.

"Yemen pursued a policy of not intimidating and underestimating in the face of Covid 19, and thanks to God, his care and mercy for the Yemeni people, Yemen was able to get out of this ordeal," he added, blaming the aggression for the spread of epidemics and diseases in Yemen.

He referred to the directives of the President of the Supreme Political Council to go towards the countryside, which represents 70 percent of the population, to provide for its medical and health services and alleviate the suffering of the citizens in the countryside.

"We have set ambitious plans and strive to find a rural hospital in every directorate during the next five years, and we need more than 150,000 general doctors and 20,000 specialists, while there are no more than four thousand doctors and a thousand and 800 specialists, including 900 specialists in the capital's secretariat," he said. And 900 specialists are distributed over the rest of the governorates, and we seek to bridge the wide gap in this aspect. "

The Minister of Health touched on the suffering of malnutrition and the organizations ’endeavors to beg and sympathize with the world in the name of the suffering of the people of Yemen due to severe and acute malnutrition, reviewing the Ministry of Health’s steps to reduce malnutrition.

He mentioned that the health centers and units were in the days of budgets and operating expenses closed, while today, in light of scarce capabilities and lack of operational budget, they operate at a rate of 90 percent and provide services to patients without discrimination around the clock, stressing the endeavor to advance primary health care in accordance with the Yemeni and faithful identity.

He pointed out that the Ministry was able to work out evidence and criteria to evaluate, classify and define hospitals and the services provided at the level of bodies, centers and units. The results of the second phase evaluation will be announced for public and private hospitals in the coming weeks.

Dr. Al-Mutawakel also affirmed that the Ministry is seeking to introduce the radiation system for oncology patients, with a value of four million dollars, as organizations refuse to enter the device.

"Last year, the ministry worked to provide 700,000 washings for dialysis diseases and distribute them to the dialysis centers, and during the current year about 500,000 washes for dialysis diseases will be provided with equipment and medicines," he said.

He indicated that the organizations that work outside of need have been stopped, and the ministry has a clear vision and need, and the organizations must work according to the vision and need of the Ministry of Health .. explaining that during the coming period the focus will be on health insurance, creating infrastructure and investment in the medical and health sector, while setting pricing and services controls as well as seeking To restore the citizen's confidence in the Yemeni doctor and medicine.

In response to the questions of the Yemeni Saba News Agency regarding the national pharmacy, price setting and controls in emergency and hospitals, the Minister of Health confirmed the continuation of completing the project to establish a national pharmacy in government hospitals to sell medicine to patients at cost to alleviate the suffering of patients, as part of its interim plan in the national vision to build the Yemeni state Modern.

With regard to the draft price-setting list for services in public and private hospitals, health centers and units, the Minister of Health revealed the readiness of the project, and a price list of services will be finally announced with the results of the evaluation during the coming weeks in response to the demands of the Yemeni people and in implementation of the directives of the President of the Supreme Political Council.

He also stressed that there are binding controls and procedures on all governmental and private hospitals, bodies and health centers, including determining the prices of operations, laboratories, diagnostic departments and full emergency services, and not referring any patient from government to private hospitals.

Dr. Al-Mutawakel explained the great need for specialists and their distribution to the governorates in various medical and health fields, stressing the need to rehabilitate and train the medical staff and keep them from attracting and emigrating outside the homeland.
