The holding of the first consultative meeting of environmental health leaders in the governorates and districts

The first consultative meeting of environmental health leaders in the governorates and districts of priority was held in Sana'a today, headed by the Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Taha Al-Mutawakel.

The meeting, in the presence of the Ministry's undersecretary for the primary health care sector, Dr. Muhammad Al-Mansour, and the population sector, Dr. Naguib Al-Qabati, discussed the mechanism for developing the performance of environmental health officials according to the confrontations of the national vision and the priorities of the Ministry of Health.

The meeting reviewed the health directorate’s system, priorities for the next phase, the relationship between food safety, environmental health and future directions.

The meeting dealt with reviewing the forms of evaluation tools for natural and industrial drink manufacturing plants, light industries, water stations, ice cream factories, restaurants, barber salons, poultry skinning shops, and others.

In the meeting, the Minister of Health referred to the importance of the first consultative meeting in which a group of environmental health workers will participate, considering the meeting as an opportunity to consult on ways to improve the level of services provided by environmental health departments in governorates and districts and to improve them.

He pointed out that environmental health is one of the components of primary care that deals with many diseases and epidemics, noting that there is a clear vision of the causes of disease transmission such as water, food and others.

He stressed that the meeting comes after restoring the environmental health dependence of the Ministry of Health for consensus on the strategic priorities of environmental health, pointing to the importance of restructuring the general administration of environmental health in the ministry so that the organizational structure is commensurate with the regulatory and legal aspects.

The Minister of Health reviewed a list of strategic objectives for environmental health in accordance with the regulatory and legal tasks entrusted to it.

He also stressed keenness to activate the institutional work of the health sector and to strengthen the supervision, follow-up and evaluation system at the level of the ministry’s leadership and its offices in the governorates and districts.

Minister Al-Mutawakil urged environmental health personnel to feel the responsibility for technical and professional control over various facilities and to know the tasks according to the description and job description, pointing to the Ministry’s endeavor to make environmental health a behavior at the level of citizens and institutions.
