The inauguration of the first phase of the rehabilitation of the new Kuwait University Hospital building

The Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Taha Al-Mutawakel, Mayor of the Capital Hammoud Abbad, and Secretary General of the Supreme Council for the Administration and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdulmohsen Tawoos, inaugurated the first phase of the rehabilitation of Kuwait University Hospital and the rehabilitation of the severe malnutrition department.

Dr. Al-Mutawakil, Abbad and Tawoos were briefed on the progress of the project and heard from the people in charge of it an explanation of its stages and components.

The Minister of Health pointed to the importance of inaugurating the first phase of the rehabilitation of the Kuwait Hospital building, coinciding with the anniversary of the Prophet's birthday. He considered the inauguration a great achievement, especially after it stumbled more than 23 years ago.

He stressed that the start of the first phase of the project during this period in which the country is experiencing indicates determination and reflects the great and unremitting efforts and joint coordination between various parties to expand and improve medical services.

He valued the support of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) to complete the implementation of the project, pointing out that the hospital will be a qualitative addition to the health work in Yemen. The country is going through in light of the continued aggression and siege.

The Minister of Health praised the support of the Supreme Council and various authorities for the efforts of the Ministry of Health in rehabilitating and improving health services and completing the project for the new building of the hospital.

  For his part, the Mayor of the Capital explained that the project represents a basic pillar in the health aspect, considering the project as one of the most important health projects implemented in this exceptional phase, especially after it stumbled for years.

He pointed out that the project is the result of a real partnership between the various authorities and UNEPS, noting that there are only three government hospitals in the capital city, stressing that today there is a tendency to make a qualitative leap in the health aspect due to the increasing need of society for medical services.

In turn, Tawoos indicated that the inauguration of the first phase of equipping and furnishing the new building of the Kuwait Hospital comes within the prioritization of needs in the field of health.

He explained that in the other stages, the hospital will be fully furnished and equipped, pointing out that the inauguration is the result of the efforts of cooperation and joint planning between the Council and the Ministry of Health, stressing the importance of the project, in providing services to the people of the capital, especially in light of the difficult conditions the health sector suffers from as a result of the continued aggression and siege. .

Tawoos praised the role of the UNEPS office, the World Health Organization and all those who cooperated with the Supreme Council in accomplishing this giant project that has been faltering for decades.

The Director of Kuwait Hospital, Dr. Amin Al-Junaid, pointed out the importance of inaugurating the first phase of the project, which includes equipping the severe malnutrition treatment center, followed by the second phase, which includes intensive care equipment, and then the rest of the hospital departments.

He praised the efforts of the Ministry of Health and the Supreme Council and the support of UNEPS in the rehabilitation of Kuwait University Hospital.

The inauguration was attended by the Director of the Health Office in the Secretariat, Dr. Mutahar Al-Marouni, the Executive Director of the United Nations Program for Project Services, Fayyad Rasoul, and the Program Officer in the UNEP office, Dr. Khaldoun Mohammad
