President Al-Mashat inaugurates two projects, Radiotherapy Unit & Great Messenger Center for Oncology Surgery

His Excellency Field Marshal Mahdi Al-Mashat, Head of the Supreme Political Council, opened today in the capital, Sana'a, the projects of the Radiotherapy Unit and the Great Messenger Center for Oncology Surgery at a cost of six million and 300 thousand dollars.

The opening of the two projects, which were funded by the Cancer Control Fund, comes on the occasion of the celebration of the ninth anniversary of the September 21 Revolution and the anniversary of the Prophet’s birthday may the best prayers ,peace be upon its owner and his family.

Where President Al-Mashat, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs - Minister of Finance, Dr. Rashid Abu Lahoum, Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Taha Al-Mutawakel, Mayor of the Capital, Dr. Hammoud Abbad, and Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Mutahar Al-Marouni, inaugurated the radiotherapy unit project, which costs four million and 500 thousand dollars funded by the Cancer Control Fund.

He heard an explanation from the Chairman of the Fund’s Board of Directors, Dr. Abdul Salam Al-Madani, and the Director of the National Center for Oncology, Dr. Abdullah Thawaba, about the components of the unit, which is the first radiotherapy unit in the Republic, equipped with the latest medical supplies, equipment, and will work to create a qualitative shift in the treatment of cancer patients in Yemen.

They explained that the unit consists of a linear accelerator device, which is considered the latest generation in radiotherapy technology, changing standards , major revolutions and breakthroughs in the treatment of some specific cancerous tumors, and the application of stereotactic radiosurgery to the brain (SRS), and stereotactic radiotherapy to the body (SBRT).

The device also features the possibility of performing surgical procedures such as (Gamma Knife) and (Cyber Knife), which are performed in a shorter time, as well as applying three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (CRT), intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), image-illustrated radiotherapy (IGRT), and volumetric radiotherapy. Density modifier (VMAT) is applied in a faster, more sensitive and accurate way.

The unit consists of a “City Simulator” device, which performs CT imaging and planning of tumors, and a control unit that performs the physical process and radiation calibration.

President Al-Mashat also inaugurated the Great Messenger Center for Oncology Surgery project, which costs one million and 800 thousand dollars, funded by the Cancer Control Fund and implemented by the Projects Sector of the Economic Corporation.

He heard from Dr. Al-Madani an explanation about the project, which consists of four floors containing diagnostic methods represented by sections for computed tomography, to recovery beds, as well as major operating departments and annexes, the central sterilization department, in addition to an oxygen generation station, a central sink, and 10 outpatient clinics.

The project is the first of its kind in Yemen, as a surgical center specializing in oncology surgery, which saves the hassle of traveling abroad to perform surgeries and removal of cancerous tumors, and provides a free surgical and hospitalization service for all cancer patients.

President Al-Mashat stressed the importance of opening a project to rehabilitate and complete the Great Messenger Center for Oncology Surgery and building a radiotherapy center, to provide medical and therapeutic services to cancer patients and alleviate their suffering in light of the conditions the country is going through as a result of the aggression and siege.

He stressed the necessity of medical care for cancer patients and providing them with the necessary services, especially in light of the increasing indicators of patients with this malignant disease, and in a way that contributes to reducing travel to receive treatment abroad and alleviating the suffering and pain that patients endure.

The opening was attended by the head of the General Authority for Zakat, Shamsan Abu Nashtan, the head of the Republican Teaching Hospital Authority, Dr. Muhammad Jahaf, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance, Kamal Khaled, and a number of officials from the Ministry of Health and the Al Jumhoori Teaching Hospital Authority.
